Paid Intern – IT Systems Support Specialist

Position Overview

VTC Tech is seeking an Paid Intern – IT Systems Support Specialist to provide dedicated onsite technology support from the office of one of our clients in Keene, New Hampshire.

This individual will be employed by VTC Tech and will work full time from an office located within the client’s facility.

The employee will serve as the primary onsite VTC Tech resource for the assigned client, responding to the client’s technology support needs and assisting with the day-to-day administration and maintenance of its technology environment.

When onsite client support is not required, the employee will continue working from the Keene client location while performing additional VTC Tech responsibilities.

These responsibilities may include Help Desk support, technical projects, system administration, hardware preparation, software installations and updates, documentation, training, and other assigned IT tasks.

This position combines the hands-on learning and technical development opportunities of VTC Tech’s internship program with the responsibilities of an onsite Paid Intern – IT Systems Support Specialist.

This is an onsite position based in Keene, New Hampshire and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work unless specifically authorized by VTC Tech.


Roles and Responsibilities

Client Onsite IT Support

Serve as VTC Tech’s onsite technical resource for the assigned client and provide timely, professional technical assistance to client employees.
Responsibilities include:
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Level 1 and Level 2 technical issues involving Windows computers, hardware, software, peripherals, printing, connectivity, and user access.
  • Configure, deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot laptops, desktops, monitors, printers, mobile devices, and related technology.
  • Install, configure, update, and support approved software and business applications.
  • Monitor assigned systems and respond to routine alerts or technical issues.
  • Identify issues requiring additional expertise and escalate complex server, network, cybersecurity, infrastructure, or other technical issues to the appropriate VTC Tech resource.
  • Communicate clearly with client employees regarding technical issues, troubleshooting, status, and resolution.
  • Provide professional, customer-focused support while representing VTC Tech within the client’s facility.
Microsoft 365 and User Administration
  • Support employee onboarding, transfers, and offboarding, including account setup, licensing, security groups, distribution lists, shared mailboxes, and application access.
  • Create, modify, disable, and maintain user accounts within Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Manage routine user access and permissions.
  • Assist users with password resets, multifactor authentication, account lockouts, and other identity and access issues.
  • Provide support for Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Perform routine Microsoft 365 administrative tasks.
  • Support collaboration tools, shared mailboxes, distribution groups, Teams, and SharePoint access.
Technical, Endpoint, and Systems Support
  • Assist with endpoint management, device policies, security tools, patching, and software deployment.
  • Assist with network and system administration tasks.
  • Help maintain computers and other endpoint devices according to VTC Tech and client technology standards.
  • Assist with software updates and installations.
  • Monitor assigned systems and respond to routine technical alerts or issues.
  • Develop knowledge of networking concepts and assist with troubleshooting connectivity, Wi-Fi, VPN, DNS, DHCP, and related issues as appropriate.
  • Follow established VTC Tech and client documentation, cybersecurity, access-control, and technical procedures.
Enterprise Applications and EHR Support
  • Provide technical and administrative support for the client’s electronic health record (EHR) and other enterprise software applications.
  • Assist with user setup, access, permissions, roles, and routine configuration within enterprise applications.
  • Troubleshoot application issues and research potential solutions.
  • Coordinate with software vendors, VTC Tech technical resources, or other support providers when escalation is required.
  • Assist with application upgrades, testing, implementation of new functionality, and ongoing system improvements.

VTC Tech Help Desk and Project Responsibilities
When client-specific onsite assistance is not required, the employee will perform additional responsibilities for VTC Tech while continuing to work from the Keene client location.
Responsibilities may include:
  • Support the VTC Tech Help Desk and Projects Teams with assigned technical tasks.
  • Respond to and assist with service tickets as assigned.
  • Document and track technical issues, troubleshooting steps, work performed, and resolutions within VTC Tech’s ticketing and documentation systems.
  • Assist with hardware unboxing, staging, configuration, setup, and deployment.
  • Assist with software installations, updates, and system preparation.
  • Perform research and troubleshooting for unfamiliar technical issues.
  • Assist VTC Tech technicians and engineers with technical projects.
  • Assist with routine network and system administration tasks.
  • Participate in training opportunities and continue developing technical knowledge across the systems and technologies supported by VTC Tech.
  • Perform additional technical duties and projects as assigned based on client and VTC Tech business needs.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred. Equivalent technical education, training, or hands-on experience may be considered.
  • Previous experience in IT support, desktop support, Help Desk, or a related technical environment preferred.
  • Approximately two or more years of IT support, desktop support, Help Desk, or related technical experience is preferred; however, candidates actively developing their technical skills and credentials are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience configuring computers and troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365 or other Microsoft business technology environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, endpoint management, networking concepts, or cybersecurity practices is desirable.
  • Relevant IT certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or Microsoft certifications are preferred but not required.
  • Candidates currently pursuing an IT degree, professional certifications, or additional technical credentials are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong technical aptitude and demonstrated ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, and user access issues.
  • Strong interest in information technology and a desire to continue learning.
  • Ability to learn new systems and technologies quickly.
  • Ability to follow and apply technical documentation when troubleshooting problems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to independently research and troubleshoot unfamiliar issues.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and Wi-Fi.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 administration, endpoint management, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, or similar business technology environments.
  • General understanding of cybersecurity and endpoint security practices.
  • Experience with scripting, automation, or PowerShell is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with both technical and nontechnical users.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to recognize when an issue should be escalated to another technical resource.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Eagerness to take on new challenges and responsibilities.
Important Work Location Information – Keene, New Hampshire

This position differs from many VTC Tech positions because the employee will be assigned to work full time from a VTC Tech client’s facility in Keene, New Hampshire.

The individual will remain an employee of VTC Tech and will report through VTC Tech’s management structure. The employee will be provided with an office/workspace within the client’s facility and will serve as VTC Tech’s primary onsite technical resource for the client.

The assigned client’s technology needs will be a primary responsibility during the workday. When the employee is not actively assisting the client or performing client-specific responsibilities, the employee will perform other VTC Tech Help Desk, project, technical, training, and support responsibilities from the same Keene location.

The position requires reliable onsite attendance, professional interaction with the client and its employees, and the ability to balance the needs of the assigned client with other VTC Tech responsibilities.
