From a one-room repair shop in rural Vermont to a multi-state managed-services powerhouse, VTC Tech’s journey is proof that putting people first never goes out of style.
In the summer of 1999, lifelong tinkerers David & Lehte Mahoney opened Vermont Connections Computer Services in a spare room above a Main Street bakery in St. Albans, VT. Their goal was simple: give local businesses the kind of honest, same-day computer help they wished someone had given them when they were an overworked IT manager. The “shop” was a folding table, a 28.8 kbps modem, and a single motto taped to the wall: “Relationships first, technology second.”
Word spread quickly through Franklin County. As more companies relied on servers and always-on email, David realized reactive “break-fix” support was no longer enough. He invested in early remote-monitoring tools and rolled out fixed-fee Managed IT Services—years before MSP was a buzzword. By 2006, Vermont Connections was monitoring more than 1,200 endpoints across northern New England.
The next inflection point came in 2010 with a round-the-clock help desk and the team’s first Azure migration. That taste of cloud scalability convinced David to double-down on business-continuity planning, hosted email, and disaster-recovery solutions—services that still anchor the portfolio today.
As the business grew headquarters moved to a purpose-built Network Operations Center on Champlain Commons in St. Albans.
After clients outside Vermont kept calling, “Vermont Connections” felt geographically limiting. The company re-launched as VTC Tech—keeping the “VT” heritage while signaling a broader reach.
2021: Opened the first satellite office in Orlando, Florida, bringing on-site coverage to Central Florida businesses.
2021: Added security specialists and earned key Microsoft & Cisco partner certifications, formalizing the Cybersecurity & Compliance practice.
2023: New hubs in Manchester, NH and Atlanta, GA plus a field team in Roanoke, AL allow VTC Tech to offer same-day on-site service throughout the East Coast.
2024: Celebrated 25 years of providing Managed IT services, cybersecurity and IT consulting to small and medium-sized enterprises.
Despite the growth, VTC Tech still lives by the white-board motto David wrote in ’99. Quarterly “Tech & Treats” volunteer days, a pledge to answer every help-desk call live within 30 seconds, and profit-share donations to STEM programs keep the team grounded.
Footprint: 13 regional offices, 13+ skilled staff members including: management, engineers and consultants, 8,000+ managed endpoints.
Focus: Managed IT, 24/7 help desk, cloud solutions, vCIO consulting, and zero-trust cybersecurity.
Vision: Lead the charge in AI-assisted managed services, giving SMBs enterprise-grade resilience without enterprise budgets.
“We started by fixing PCs for our neighbors. We’ll never lose sight of that neighborly mindset—no matter how far the map stretches.”
— David & Lehte Mahoney, Founders
